[ they're not going to touch grass for a while. lambda has a vr set held in between her too long sleeves, and it doesn't look like she's going to take off her sunglasses before putting the headset on. ]

[ be less bossy. ]

Hah, sure.

[ it's fine, alex has started multiple threads doing the same thing to people. anyway she puts on a headset of her own and it takes a second to get where she wants. because at first it's underwater, outside of a submarine. but just for like... a second. and then it's a nice little town by some docks. ]

I mean, I haven't actually been many interesting places, but—it's something.

[diluvian]

[ the underwater submarine catches lambda's attention more, but it's a quaint town. ]

If it's what you know, it's what you know. Were those two connected?

Uhh, yeah. Little bit.

There was this submarine that sank off the coast of the island back in like World War II. There's like a monument to it, it's a whole thing.

[diluvian]

For remembrance, huh? Do you miss your town?

[ she assumes this is where alex is from. ]

[camena]

Yeah. [ which question is that answering. who knows. ]

This is like a little island off the coast but it's just a ferry ride away. We used to come here a lot. It's a little touristy, but probably more interesting than my actual hometown.

[diluvian]

Which would you pick?

[ home or the tourist trap? ]

[camena]

Home.

No one really lives on Edwards Island, anyway.

[diluvian]

[ she nods and starts walking around this island, just checking things out. ]

Is that what you're playing for? To go home?

[camena]

[ it's mostly kitschy little coastal gift shops... and they're all closed because it's night time. there's a big monument up some stairs, and past that some kind of office?

truly not very interesting, but alex follows along, not really looking at what's familiar to her. ]

I'm playing for Jonas.

[diluvian]

[ she will go up these stairs because why not? she looks over at alex. ]

Jonas? Not yourself?

We're on a team so it's basically the same thing?

[ neat! the monument looks like... a bird? a whale? a bird on a whale? who fucking knows but it's pretty big. ]

[diluvian]

[ oh. that speaks to her, though. lambda likes bird and sea animal motifs. she makes a beeline to the statue. ]

Oh? You could have said for the both of you, but you didn't. Who is Jonas to you?

[ and why do you pick him over yourself? ]

[camena]

[ it has a plaque that says something about being in memory of those lost in the sinking of the USS Kanaloa, but that's all because apparently this fucking island delivers all its information via radio tours. you know. because everyone just has a radio on them all the time. ]

He's Jonas.

[ THAT DOESN'T ANSWER ANYTHING. ]

[ alex, your radio motif. it's fine. sometimes, you just have to have radios. that aren't here in this vr trip. ]

He's... my step brother? I guess?

[ weird. very weird. ]

His dad is marrying my mom, and we just met the night before coming, uh, here.

[ yo, this canon point.

she glances at alex, surprised. not even her sunglasses can hide it that well. ]

You two seem closer than just met a day ago.

[camena]

[ the story only spans 11 hours... this would have been the state of them no matter what. ]

Do we? [ huh. ] It feels like I've known him forever.

[diluvian]

[ it's only 11 hours??? i didn't know this about oxenfree. damn. ]

You act like it, too.

[camena]

[ yea aside from the [ spoilers ] :D ]

... You think that's weird?

[diluvian]

[ she shakes her head. ]

If you can bond with someone that fast, isn't it a good thing to be able to connect? It's hard to understand others, much less become close.

[camena]

I guess so.

And we've had more time to get to know each other since... the whole dying thing.

[diluvian]

The circumstances are horrible, but the time together with him doesn't suck.

[camena]

Yeah. Yeah, it's been nice to have—time. More time.

[diluvian]

[ there's a small pause. ]

It's difficult not to want more time with someone you care about.
