[ lambda is chilling on a swing. she's resting after a jog, but she kind of looks annoyed about it, if alex can see the annoyance behind the sunglasses lambda is still wearing. ]

I can't believe this.

[ alex comes over and hops up onto the swing beside her. standing on it. she is Rebellious ]

What's wrong?

[ lambda likes a little rebellion in a girl, so that's fine. ]

They took away my stamina, too.

[ well she's heard people lost their magic, so that tracks... but... ]

You know, I really can't decide if that's fair or not.

It's not. I was born that way. I should be able to stay that way.

[ level playing fields are for the weak! ]

But how would regular kids like me even compete with that?

[diluvian]

Do any of us even know what the tasks are? If they were smart about it, they could even it out that way.

[camena]

That's true. Like if the tasks were more like... Spelling bees. Or something.

[diluvian]

Is that something you'd win at? A spelling bee?

[camena]

Probably.

My, we have quite the educated student here, do we?

I dunno, I just like... Books. I guess.

[ hilariously, she didn't really mean it as an insult, but she was teasing. how do you say nerd without saying nerd, ]

Do you feel ashamed about it?

Nah, it's cool.

But it's not like I'm—smarter than other people. Particularly.

Smarter depends on the subject and on the person. You just need to be resourceful enough to get what you want.

[camena]

I don't know if spelling bees work that way...

But yeah. I think that's true of most things. There's different kinds of smart.

[diluvian]

We've moved on from spelling bees.

[ or at least lambda has because she's rude and mean. ]

That's why we should all retain what we were born with.

[camena]

I don't know. Even if there's an even balance of tasks for, uh, brains versus brawn or whatever... If one of the ways to get ahead, like erasing people, is easier for people who are strong...

[ unbalanced!! ]

Is that any different from how life usually is?

[ when has life ever been about balance? ]

They call it a game, but it's a funny situation to call a game.

[camena]

Life is unfair... But games are kind of meant to be more balanced. I think.

[diluvian]

And if it's a game that pertains to your life? Which one dominates?

[camena]

Good... point...

I know which one I'd like to dominate.

[diluvian]

You want it to be balanced.

[camena]

I don't think there's a chance it would actually get skewed in my favor. So that would be my best shot.

You'd be surprised how much an ordinary human can do if they get enough of the right people on their side.
