It's not about compromise. It's a matter of what you can do and what you choose to do.

I'd never forgo my principles.

[ alex thinks that this might be a little easier depending on what your principles are, but that would come out a lot judgier than she means it, so instead: ]

[ it's okay to be judgy, and alex isn't not wrong. lambda's capacity and ability to understand others fluctuates, and it is easier for lambda to say because she was born out of a environment that perpetuated a life or death competition. ]

As long as you hold onto that conviction, you'll make it. It may not be easy, but we've more or less lost access to easy.
