anyway. he makes a soft noise, thoughtful. she can hear enough of the melody if she wants and would recognize it! it's pretty iconic. ]
Yang Guifei... The name of a consort, right? To an emperor. [ thoughtful. ] Tang, I think. The pipa, the name - now that I'm connecting it, it does make sense.
[ what self respecting chinese modern extremely well red nerd wouldn't have known this. shameful. ] Admittedly, I don't remember a lot about her story - but, I thought it was a coincidence.
[ she won't because it's not from a ballet or a typical song used for figure skating routines, but maybe it'll come to her after the weekend gauntlet.
she nods. he got it. ]
It's hard to believe, isn't it? Even in a situation like this. [ her lips curve a little in an enigmatic smile. ] And it's almost as if history will repeat itself tomorrow.
I'm learning that many things I've thought couldn't possibly exist exist here. [ there's a little smile to match - similar, enigmatic, though it doesn't last. ] It does seem like it, though. They did tell us to brace ourselves.
Being dead opens you to a lot of new experiences. [ not all good. usually not good. ] The game they want us to play doesn't help.
[ yang guifei murdering hikari doesn't make the game any better, but lambda expected it to happen sooner or later (the killing, not this specific murder). ]
She and I are cut from the same cloth in more ways than one.
[ yeah. he. also expected that! at least someone waited until thursday and followed the rules, so there's that.
fei du tilts his head a little, and then offers her a smile. ] You're both involved in the arts, aren't you? I remember, you mentioned ballet.
[ there's just a little bit of mischief to the charming way he suggests it - like that's true, but definitely not the only thing they have in common? just a little tongue in cheek, playful. ]
At my most natural and perfect state, I'm a prima donna without compare.
[ her confidence needs to be excised. she can tell he's being playful and hinting at otherwise, but she is so pretentious and a little single-minded once ballet is brought up.
pretentious but also livelier than she usually seems. ]
[ oh that is telling. fei du makes a little noise of appreciation and recognition. ]
I see, I see. [ interesting. this makes her making out murder sure a thing the next day ] There doesn't seem to be much room for the arts in this city, does there... it's a shame.
when she makes it to the museum, fei du is there! he's dressed a little differently today, god bless new outfits, and he offers lambda both a smile and then his arm, like a gentleman. ]
There aren't a lot of them, but it's a start. Shall we?
[ oh, he's so stylish. lambda can't complain. she looks at his offered arm for almost a beat too long before she places her giant sleeve over his arm. her touch is light. ]
Anything I can see with my eyes, in front of me, is enough.
[ she can't keep her cool completely. there's a little undercurrent of excitement. the way ballet always gets her. ]
[ light is perfectly fine - his is just the same in return, adjusting easily to match. like a good escort.
this reaction is cute...? the excitement is very cute. he smiles a little further and leads the way directly, past the Dino Bones exhibit, and back into the art area. it's quieter here, and eventually, he rounds the corner to a smaller hallway featuring a painting immediately on sight, and another nearby.
fei du's watching her reaction more than he really is the painting, but, his smile warms a little more as they enter. ]
[ fei du cracked the lambda code so quickly. she has her sunglasses on, as she always does, but there's no hiding how unguarded she is in the face of anything ballet-related. she walks towards the paintings, as if it has a gravitation pull. she's practically glowing, and she can't stop the smile from splitting her face.
it's such a different experience seeing something in the flesh like this and not through data. ]
[ fei du stays quiet while lambda takes the painting in, mostly to let her have the moment, though he's watching. the smile, the glow; what a marked difference from yesterday.
it's nice. this is how these things should be, he thinks. museums full of works of art for people to see, instead of relics trapped in an office, squirreled away by the wealthy out of a possessive greed. when fei du comes up next to her to look at it, hands folding now behind his back to let her have her penguin hands back, he makes a soft noise of acknowledgment. ]
It would be nice - but that's the dilemma, too, that something so beautiful could be so easily damaged, no matter how careful we are. Age and time.
[ a pause. ] This is the first time I've seen this one in person. It's beautiful.
[ her sleeves hover in front of the painting, and she takes a step back. she does pride herself on having some self-control. ]
Its delicacy can add to its beauty even if... [ delicate isn't something that comes easy for her. ] There's an elegance that can only be seen in person. The brush strokes, the little details... the life and the passion you can see.
[ ... ]
Thanks for bringing these to my attention, Fei Du. I wouldn't have wanted to miss them for the world.
I agree. [ there's a little warmth in his expression, there, as he steps up to look in at the brush strokes properly, too. it makes a difference, whether it's a familiar sight for him or not, and when lambda addresses him again, he turns his head and offers her a genuine, warm smile. ]
I'm glad I could. [ yaaay... he looks happy, eyes crinkling at the corners briefly before he looks back at the painting, admiring. there's something a little wistful, there, though it's harder to place. ] Things like this are meant to be admired by the people who can most appreciate them, I think - after our conversation the other day, it felt like a stroke of luck.
Thank you for sharing it with me, to be honest. I've seen Degas before, but, it's a lot different to view it with someone like you.
[ lightly teasing, but! sure, he can do that. with an amused little noise, he glances around, and then makes an 'ah' noise, heading towards the direction of another section of art! once lambda follows, she can find that fei du slows to a stop near this painting.
bleak. damn ]
Bit of a mood change, but I always thought this one was interesting - the art is beautiful, but the story behind it is fascinating, too. It's hard to believe this painting was done almost at the same time as the Degas ones, isn't it? The style difference between them is crazy.
